Systemic Hypertension effect on eye

 

Hypertension

is one of the commonest diseases in the world, affect up to 60% of those aged over 60 years old.

The majority of HTN is chronic, unknown cause ( essential ).

HTN mean increase systemic blood pressure > 140 / 90 mmHg.

Ophthalmic features include:

    • Retinal arteriolosclerosis.
    • Branch retinal vein occlusion.
    • Retinopathy.
    • Retinal artery occlusion.
    • Retinal artery macro aneurysm.
    • Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.
    • Choroidal infarcts.
    • ocular motor nerve palsies.
    • Exudative retinal detachment ( with eclampsia ).
